En Ashurá, el décimo día del mes de muharram según el calendario islámico, los chiíes​ recuerdan el asesinato del Imán Hussein ibn Ali, al que consideran sucesor legítimo del profeta Mahoma, su abuelo. Hussein murió asesinado por las tropas omeyas junto a 72 seguidores en el año 680 en Kerbala, la actual Irak. En su recuerdo, fieles chiitas de todo el mundo rememoran al Imam Hussein con ceremonias que no distan demasiado de lo que es la Semana Santa católica. En Irán, muchos automóviles son tuneados con motivos y leyendas religiosas.

In Ashura, the tenth day of Muharram month according to the Islamic calendar, Shiites remember the killing of Imam Hussein ibn Ali, who is considered legitimate successor of the Prophet Muhammad, his grandfather. Hussein was killed by Umayyad troops along with 72 followers in 680 in Karbala, Iraq today. In his memory, faithful Shiites from all over the world remember Imam Hussein with ceremonies that are not too far from what is Catholic Holy Week. In Iran, many cars are tuned with religious motifs and legends.
